If an Agnate attains Acharyan Tiruvadi, if the said son is within the 7 generations, he will have to observe 10 days of asaucam. If he is within 14 generations, he will have to observe 3 days of asaucam. Thus, asaucam, is determined based on the generation to which he belongs.
If not asaucam, and if the deceased is not a close relative, one can celebrate festivals.
