One must perform Achamanam (ritual sipping of water for purification) before and after performing Grahana Tarpanam. Can water be swallowed at that time? Isn’t there a rule that one should not consume anything (fasting) during an eclipse?

If it becomes necessary to perform Achamanam during the time of the eclipse, it can be done. It is also customary to perform Sandhyavandanam rituals (which include Achamanam) during this time.
