When we recently were at Gaya for Gaya Shraddha, we went to the Sri Vishnu Padam temple; as the priest there insisted that we worship the Sri Vishnu paadam and other idols thereby touching, we were forced to touch the idols at that temple. Has any sin been committed because of this? If so, what is the atonement?

It is a practice to touch the idols at temples in North India. If we had touched the idols in the temple due to this practice, no offense might have been committed. Hence no atonement is required. We have followed the practice of those places, that is all.
