Why do we touch our forehead, nose, and chest?

One must perform Nyasya on the head, face, and heart – “shirasi mukhE hridayE cha nyAsya.” Shiras refers to the crown of the head (the top part). Touching the face does not mean touching the lips; one should hold the hand near the mouth and recite. One should touch the heart and recite. We do this because this, too, is prescribed.
