I have read that wearing a sacred thread is one of the conditions for performing Achamanam. If so, how does this rule apply to women? Since it is said that women can also perform Achamanam, is this a general rule for everyone?

To perform Achamanam, one must have undergone Upanayanam. Only then can it be done along with the Yagnopavita. For women, marriage itself is considered Upanayanam, so they can perform Achamanam.
